This is a question we see over and over, "How do I get cheap Disney tickets?" The short answer is, you don't. There are very few ways to save tons of money on Disney World theme park tickets. There are, however, a few ways to save a few bucks on each ticket and we'll go over those, here.
Military
Right now, active and retired military get a free 5-Day Pass with the Park Hopper Option and the Water Parks, Fun and More Option. Plus, additional family members can get a 5-Day Pass for $99 each plus tax. Even family members can add the Park Hopper Option or Water Parks, Fun and More Option for an additional $25 each. To buy these tickets, you have to show proper military ID at a base office or at Guest Services located at the front entrance to any of the Disney Theme Parks.
While this is a temporary discount for the military (ends December 23rd), Disney World has always provided discount theme park admission tickets to active and retired military members -- however, this discount essentially amounts to a tax-free ticket and you must purchase the tickets at the Shades of Green resort.
Special Events
Disney has a couple special-entry events, Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey's Very Merry Christmas, that require separate tickets for the evening festivities. This is a great opportunity to visit the Magic Kingdom, as the tickets are much less than an ordinary one-day pass and attendance is limited. While not every ride will be open for these events, there will be many other special activities (such as a special parade and picture opportunities) that you won't get during a regular visit to the Kingdom.
Even though the "party" doesn't start until 7PM, running to midnight, you can actually gain admittance to the park at 4PM! This is a full 8 hours in the Magic Kingdom for almost half of what you would pay for a one-day pass.
AAA
If you happen to be an AAA member, you can pre-order your tickets through AAA for a small discount, prior to leaving for your vacation. The discount generally runs between $3 and $5 per ticket, depending on which Magic-Your-Way ticket you purchase.
Ticket Wholesalers
There are several ticket wholesalers that sell discounted Disney tickets. Disney wholesaler tickets range dramatically in price. Our personal favorite, after dealing with many over the years (some very shady), is the Official Ticket Center (affiliate link). While we do earn a commission from the Official Ticket Center, it is only after years of trial and error with various ticket wholesalers that we chose to create a relationship with them. They are extremely service oriented and provide the best possible prices on Disney tickets, without using less than ethical means to obtain the discounts.
There are quite a few other ways to get discounts on tickets, including the timeshare preview tickets (never, ever, ever, never -- IMHO). You can get very detailed information on every possible way to save money on Disney tickets in our Insider's Guide To Disney.
Next in our save money at Disney World series, we'll talk about one of my favorites: dining! MMMmmmm......
