Last weekend, Disney World held it's annual Marathon Weekend with the Disney Half-Marathon and the Disney Marathon. We attended as spectators and participants, so here are a few pics from the event.
All of the participants seemed to agree on a few things:
- Not enough parks. Of course, we would all love more time in the parks, but the runners said the sections of the run that were inside the parks was not enough. However, Disney does have to find a way to get through all four parks and not go over the 26.2 miles (although all of the runners we spoke with said they're measuring devices showed the race at 26.4 miles).
- Too much sun. Yes, this is the Sunshine State and much of the race was directly in the sun. Very few shady areas.
- Tons of water. Although it was very sunny, the runners said there was more than enough water to compensate for the sun. Oftentimes, runners are dying for the next water station, but not in this race.
- Lots of entertainment. There were plenty of high school bands, Disney characters, and spectators to urge the runners on to the finish.
Tomorrow, we'll talk more about what it was like to be a spectator at the marathon. Not one of Disney's best performances.
